Common questions

Plain answers, before you write.

Fees

Do you take my insurance?

Poise is out of network with insurance plans. You pay the practice and can ask your plan to reimburse you. Dr. Gallegos does not bill Medicare or Medicaid. The dietitian partner's practice decides which plans it bills.

What is a superbill, and how do I use it?

It is an itemized monthly receipt you can send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Your plan decides whether it pays you back.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to a written estimate of the cost of your care before you start, and Poise gives you one. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

How much does it cost, and how do fees work?

Dr. Gallegos gives you the fee for a session in writing before you book. The page on how fees work has the details, including reduced-fee times and the dietitian's separate fees.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes, for sessions with Dr. Gallegos. Check with your plan about the dietitian's sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Dr. Gallegos asks for 24 hours' notice to move or cancel a session. Emergencies are handled one by one.

Getting started

What happens in the first session?

You talk about what you want from the work, and you choose what to say. Dr. Gallegos explains how she works. Nobody is weighed, and you leave with a sense of the next step.

How often do we meet, and for how long?

Sessions are 50 minutes. Dr. Gallegos sets the pace with you, and it can change as the work does.

Are you licensed where I live?

Dr. Gallegos is licensed in California and can see clients by video only while they are in California.

Do you see teens?

Poise is for adults, 18 and over. If you are looking for a clinician for a teen, we will help you find one.

Safety

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time, or call 911 in an emergency. Chest pain, fainting or not being able to keep fluids down need a doctor or an emergency room first. This website is not monitored around the clock.

What is confidential, and what are the limits?

Dr. Gallegos keeps your records private and shares them only as the law allows. The main limits are a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, and a legal order. She explains them in your first session.
